We donated some dog toys, some food, some prescription meds, empty prescription bottles, and small food bottles. Our dog recently died, but are not yet ready to replace him. Before we left we saw a couple walking out with their new adoption and a new bag of free dog food, etc. They do local activity like neighborhood adoption fairsn etc. When my husband volunteered there several years back, he became friends with their dog trainer. I didn't know they had a dog trainer, but it makes sense. They walk and play with their animals. Last time I went inside, they had donated items in a bin in the front that visitors can take. I didn't go inside this time, my husband did but I assume it's still there. Their building is clean and the staff friendly.

We adopted a kitten about 3 months ago. He’s the best boy ever! Our problem is that when we took him to the free vet visit they told us he had fleas. We felt so bad and got him on flea prevention. We were confused because we assumed the shelter provided medications for the animals. Most shelters do so they don’t spread and cause worse situations. Of course he got Tapeworms for having the fleas for god knows how long at that point. Now we’re having to pay for stool sample test and who knows what else once we get the results back. Please know that your animal may have fleas and if they consume those said fleas they can contact tapeworms and it’s been a hassle. The Dallas animal shelter takes care of everything so why don’t all? The photo is the tapeworm fragments we found in his bed and a photo of him!

I live in Carrollton. My brother in law found 4 3-week old kittens in a car he towed somewhere in the dfw area And asked for my help. I spoke to Melissa who told me I could not bring them here and told me to walk into the Farmers Branch animal shelter with them or operation kindness. We tried but they’re closed for Good Friday and don’t answer their after hours #. Operation kindness said they should go through Carrollton. I also spoke to the supervisor who argued that even if they weren’t found in farmers branch they have to go there bc the original person who saw them live in farmers branch. They ask for ID and when I go mine says Carrollton bc that is where I pay taxes so I keep getting the run around by these shelters. There’s a gray area here regarding where they should go so they are using it as a reason to deny help. I’ve taken in 3 stray cats and help local rescues. This is extremely disappointing but consistent with what I’ve heard about this shelter. Hope this helps people who are trying to do the right thing understand how they will be treated here. This is where your tax money goes.Donors and volunteers be mindful of the institutions you support.
