It seems like every apartment building in Waukegan has a roach problem, so when we moved in here, I figured the last tenant spilled some sugar. It wasn't sugar, the landlord had doused the cabinets in boric acid, and there were dead roaches. I asked the other tenants if there were any bugs, and one of them told me "Yeah, roaches." I asked if the landlord did anything. He replied, "Yeah, send a guy out for 30 seconds that doesn't do anything." I have battled cockroaches before and had mixed results, so I felt it was wise to call in a professional. Orkin had a coupon for the initial service, and send Desmond out. I feel that Desmond took the time to listen to the issues I was having. I told him I found dead German cockroaches in the cabinets and some dead ones in the AC filter, which probably means the landlord set off a cockroach bomb too before renting the place out. Desmond spent roughly an hour in my apartment and got all the rooms, including the closets with spray insecticide. I was assured by Orkin that this is safe for people and my cats (as soon as it dries). He also put down bait traps under the appliances and sprayed, and sprayed the cabinet interiors and put gel bait on the doors (hinges). I was informed that "If there are any roaches, they'll go crazy and then they'll die, so you may start seeing a lot more of them over the next few days." Within hours of his departure, I found two dead American roaches and a dead German. I gave them all a "burial at sea" (the toilet). I told Desmond that I had a good laptop computer that was infested by Germans and that I didn't know exactly what to do, but that I'd gotten some 3 gallon storage bags off Amazon and planned to toss in a Hot Shot No Pests strip in the bag with it (outside, without breathing in the fumes, obviously, with gloves on), and then double bag over the sealed bag, and leave it in my trunk for about a week. He said that should kill them. I want my laptop back, not a colony of German cockroaches that are breeding in there. I told Desmond that I only saw two American roaches at this apartment in the last week, but where there's two there's more, and the dead German roaches bothered the hell out of me. I had been dealing with the ones I saw with an electric fly zapper. He laughed and asked how that worked. I said, "Well, it's meant for flies where it just goes 'click!' and the fly dies, roaches are tougher. You have to press the button, swat them, and wait until you hear like 10 zaps and then go flush them." But roaches are fast and it's a bad idea to just stomp them, because you can get eggs all over your shoe. Zapping and flushing is a safer way to deal with ones you see and it's harder for them to get away from the swatter. I plan to keep the Orkin subscription for at least a year and see if I keep seeing live and healthy roaches. I was told that they will do spot treatments between regular servicing if they persist at no additional charge, which is nice. You can't be too careful with roaches. Another key to roach control is to keep house well. Roaches love garbage, food scraps, standing water, clutter, and cardboard. Get the cardboard out of the house.

I had service for about a year. Their service was terrible. They consistently messed up or canceled appointments or did not show up. They came, never came to my door, and I have cameras so I would know- my husband almost always home week days wfh. I told them to always ring the doorbell. They never did. They keep trying to charge me for services that were not completed. They had my name wrong on the account for over 6 months. They came for services that I did not request like outdoor pest spraying and rodent control. Absolutely frustrating experience. This company is terrible.

Why in the world are your employees putting their garbage on my lawn when I'm not even the customer. This is ridiculous and unsanitary.

John with Orkin has been extremely helpful in solving our pest problem and keeping it solved. He is timely, responsive, and personable. We are very satisfied with our experience. It is worth every penny to have the building pest free!

Roaches are more populated now, and this company only charge you money. When I called them and addressed the issue, they seemed not understanding, so I gave up and asked to cancel the service because they can’t came up with a solution. Don’t trust their name. Orkin is a reputable company that’s why I choose them first place but I guess they proved me otherwise.
