My first time adopting a pet here and it was very heart warming and I love the community atmosphere. I’ve followed this shelter on instagram for a while as they are very active and posting available pets for adoption. We came across a few dogs we were interested in adopting on pet compass and met a few before our hearts were set with Sookie. Adoption process was very quick and they sent us home with a toy (which she destroyed), kibble, collar + leash. Everyone here is very kind and you can tell that staff + volunteers honestly like to be here. I know they can get overwhelmed with many animals coming through their shelter but I truly believe they do their best with what they have. I love that SJ has such a strong community and do their best to give back as much as possible.

I have a mixed feeling about this place. I got my first cat here, and she’s probably my last cat. The adoption was easy and quick. But they didn’t really tell you the current health conditions of the animal. However they do have a medical history record on each animal that they’ll give when you bring your pet home. I should’ve asked and checked it before agreeing to adopt. Long story short, my cat was very sick in guts. That kind of sickness is not what you can tell from the outside physically. I’ve done my best for the past two months and she was getting worse. I was so frustrated and stressed and also struggling with what to do as being a first time cat parent. They made it look like impossible to return the animal. At some point I finally decided to send her back for my mental sanity. They charged me 80 bucks for “surrendering” the animal because it’s more than 30 days of adoption. They posted her profile on their website for adoptable cat shortly after I returned her without changing any description or discoursing her health. Everything was just as what I read 2 months ago. Then later that evening, her ad was gone. There was no way people adopted her that quickly in a normal weekday. I often wonder what they’ve done to her. I really miss the cat but also regret to adopt her in the first place.

This is a freedom ride photo for Finn a wonderful 5 year old blue heeler. He was set to be euthanized, because he wasn't doing well and the shelter and we couldn't let that happen because we knew his story. He turned out to be a wonderful, highly trained dog. He has been good with my other two dogs which is always a worry when bringing in a new dog. This facility is beautiful and the people working there are very nice. They worked with me to make sure Finn was not destroyed, like so many other dogs. Please consider adopting a shelter dog before you buy one from a breeder. There are thousands of them waiting for new homes in the shelters across the USA

We fostered a dog, their vet ordered prescription food for her, answered my question very quickly even on weekends. Can’t believe they care about animals just like care their own kids! Now I feel so lucky to adopt her ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Great place to find your next best friend. I got a tour of the facility and loved every bit of it. Always adopt responsibly, animals have feelings too.
