6+ miles of trails Good hiking for an intermediate. Very rocky, lots of clay, a few nice placards about the ecosystem and history of the 1800’s chromium mine. Gets very wet after rain and melted snow due to the serpentine rocks and clay. The old mine entrance is fenced off. Not much to see but neat!

We cannot wait to go back to Soldiers Delight! Plenty of parking at the visitors center and the restrooms were very clean. The center had nice educational signage on the walls as well. This morning we hit the 3-ish moderately difficult mile Serpentine Trail and a couple notes: wear water resistant shoes and be prepared for rocks and tree roots. This is not a stroller or accessible trail so keep that in mind, but goodness it is a beautiful trail! The views were gorgeous and if you stopped to listen you'd hear absolutely nothing - it was SO quiet while surrounded by incredible rolling hills. There are several trails marked and we hope to try the Choate mining trail next. The Serpentine trail was very enjoyable and although muddy/watery most of the way, we'd definitely hit this relatively short but moderate trail again.

This is a great place for a nature hike. We hit the trail late morning and enjoyed the ever changing light of a party cloudy spring day. Lots of native wildflowers in bloom. A fair amount of birds were active in the brush and understory. Sweeping views of the native grasslands and oaks forests top of the highlights of the Serpentine Loop trail. Highly recommended for nature lovers.

Went to walk the serpentine trail and loved it. The trail is somewhat muddy at places and difficult to keep balance, so wear good shoes if you are planning to go there. Vast expanse of land reminds the landscape of northern CA. The landscape is a geological marvel dotted with Virginia pines. Must see for a outdoor lover. The visitor center stuff are really helpful. Enjoyed the turtles there, never had seen/heardcsome of them before.

Soldiers Delight is an absolute gem hidden amongst the suburbs. The trails are well-marked and clean, and Soldiers Delight is perfect for both short strolls and longer hikes. Each trail has its own charm, and along the way you'll find plenty of native plants. One heads-up: In the warmer months, ticks are plentiful, so definitely check yourself before heading home.
